ABINGDON, Va. -- Three days after longtime State Sen. William Wampler, R-Bristol, announced his intention to retire from public life at the end of his current term, a fellow Republican legislator has announced that he’ll run to fill the empty seat.
Del. Bill Carrico, R-Independence, announced Monday that he’s seeking the Republican nomination for the 40th District senate seat that Wampler has held since 1988. Election Day is Nov. 8.
